ajpl677
Hi, Anyone know how many 24 carat gold plated state qtr sets were minted? I have seen them in a presentation box, 5 or 8 in each set etc but cannot find any mention of them in the red book. Thanks Andy
Roger
These most likely were plated by a secondary marketeer to be sold on TV or other means to unsuspecting buyers. As far as I know the US mint has not gold plated any coins in quite a while. The gold plating is so thin that there is little added value if any. Since these were plated by an aftermarket firm and not by the US Mint it would not be listed in the "Red Book".
ajpl677
Thanks, I have picked up the complete set for only a few pounds, just waiting for them to arrive. The price was so low I couldn't ignore them, even just for their novelty value. I will see if they have any details on the presentation boxes when they arrive.
