Art1.2
Why are most of them red? I'd never noticed that. I'm guessing that red would not show dust, etc as easily as black but would give a great contrast against a copper, silver or gold coin. thedeadpoint
In my early days of collecting, I read a book about basic tricks - which light to use to look at coins, what type of background to have, etc. And I remember red being considered distracting and bad for the viewer. I doubt all dealers are buying red trays to help deceive the buyers but I guess some would.
KoRnholio
I'd think red would be a good color to contrast any coins in trays. Even colors like blue and green could blend into the appearance of certain coins. But with red, the dealer would be able to easily notice a blank space and fill it with a coin for display. jlueke
These two points are precisely what I'm trying to sort out. Is it something that is more distracting or the best way to present most coins? I notice most exhibit backgrounds are not red but a lot of trademarks are or contain red. What is the best color to show coins, especially when brown and silver coins are mixed?
thedeadpoint
I think black is the best background. but it does show dust as you pointed out. but what does it matter anyway since most coins are in white cardboard flips
