Ian
Some of the earliest jetons de presence were the ones minted for and issued specifically to members of the Kings Counsel. These were typically `cabinet ministers' with key functions in the affairs of state such as the Admiral of the Fleet, Minister of State, Chief Treasurer, The Kings Advocate, etcetera. This particular jeton was minted in silver during the reign of Louise XIII and is dated 1623. The obverse has the typical shield of arms and legend Nil Nisi Consilio (Nothing without Counsel). The reverse shows the sun (Louis XIII?)radiant. This particular jeton has nice dark toning, is in uncirculated condition but has a minor flaw to the rim obverse to the right of the N in `Nisi'.
