Roy777
I've tried to find this coin online, and although I found many with owls on the back, their wings were closed, this one's wings are open, any idea what age this is from and more precisely the name? jlueke
That's a copy of a pretty rare coin, an Athenian dekadrachm

KurtS
I wondered if this was a decadrachm too--but I have not rerferenced your coin against known copies. Obviously area and valuable if genuine. I have sieen a similar desert patina on silver coins:
Steve D'Ippolito
That last coin looks Roman, not Greek, so I wouldn't expect it to be a dekadrachm. (Of course for all I know it's some bit of provincial coinage from a Hellenic area of the Roman Empire.) Also it looks bronze (as does the copy above) and I thought drachms and multiples were invariably silver. If I am talking out of unintentional ignorance, please, correct me. KurtS
Obviously, it's not Greek; that's Elagabalus. I just posted that coin as an example of dark patina/desert patina on a silver coin. This coin is indeed silver--it was subjected to cleaning, strpping down to the silver. I won't post the cleaned pictures; they are shocking.
