Mercury Dimes -- gosh they're pretty.

Recommended Posts

We have threads for posting your Lincolns, Jeffersons, Roosevelts, even Presidential Dollars. How's about a thread to post those great looking Mercs.

Well, technically it's Liberty wearing a winged cap signifying freedom of thought. But of course the resemblance and confusion was unavoidable.

The only real classical imagery on the coin is the fasces on the reverse, which was the old Roman symbol of authority. Roman magistrates (consuls and the like) had lictors in their entourage, who would carry a fasces as the magistrates' emblem of office). Anyhow that clown in Italy from 1923-1944 caused "fasces" to forever be associated with brutalitarian dictatorships, just like another rather notorious individual at the same time but on the other side of the Alps ruined the swastika good luck sign.

Can we make a complete set amongst us all?

Don't know why not start a thread to give it a go?

WOW! You have got to be one of the greatest Merc fans I've ever run into. Congrats on the sets and good luck on the new ones.
