Amateur
Hi, I bought this 1762 rouble (see pictures on http://photobucket.com/peterIIIrouble ) on the net from somebody I never dealt with before. The seller says it is authentic and that "a few rare Russian coin dealers confirmed it was ok, including Marek Melcer from Poland". I don't know this Polish expert, and now that I got the coin in my hands I have a bad feeling about it: crown and face are different from other st. petersburg coins of Peter III and I couldn't find anything similar in novodels listed in catalogues I have. could someone please confirm my fears? weight is 22.29g. thank you. squirrel
I am sorry, but your suspicions are justified. It doesnt look very good at all, based on your photos.

Amateur
thanks to both of you for your input. I got a similar feedback from another russian collector. I will send the coin back to the seller and will try to get my monies back.
Steve D'Ippolito
I wish you luck with that.
PeterShell
I know Marek Melcer and I can say that he is good specialist. But I'd rather doubt in the story of confirmation by him than anything else. Probably the seller just sold you this piece with the fake story also.
