CuriousGeorge
My mother-in-law believes that this commemorates the US handover of Okinawa to Japan in 1972. Her late brother-in-law had it made into a pendant as you can see in the photos. She also believes that it is made of gold because her late brother-in-law collected many gold coins. The token is approximately 30mm in diameter and weight is a little over an ounce. Any additional info regarding its origin and current value would be greatly appreciated. ccg
If it is gold, the value is probably just whatever the "scrap" value is. The problem with any modern (and many older) gold medallions / exonumia is simply that their gold value almost always overwhelms any collectible value. CuriousGeorge
Thanks very much for your reply. I have searched the internet and haven't been able to find any info on this at all. I really appreciate any info I can get on this. My wife and her mom will be making a trip to Japan in the spring. They will take this and a few other items (she has many silver 1 yen pieces from the 1800s and 1 Trade Dollar) with them to see what their values are.
