geordie582
It had to happen! I dare say they intend to get rid of all coins and replace them with plastic. Then what will the modern collector collect?

tabbs
Hehe, in Germany the trend is almost in the opposite direction. Nowadays there is not much need for public payphones any more, so in rural or suburban areas the older ones are either removed or get replaced with simple models. These allow you to call emergency and 800 numbers only, ie. work with calling cards. In areas that are frequented by lots of tourists, however, the coin phone has a renaissance: People from neighboring countries may not always have such cards with them, and using the cell phone may get costly abroad. But they will usually have coins at hand. So between 2004 and 2007 T-Com will install 10,000 new dual mode phones that can be used with calling cards, the older chip phone cards -- and cash (edit: Source - in German) Christian
