UBS Switzerland discontinuing numismatics services

Here is the text of a letter which I received recently from the UBS numismatics department:

For business reasons, UBS has decided to withdraw from numismatic activities and to discontinue its numismatic services as of April 30, 2011.

UBS will continue to provide its usual range of trading services in readily marketable gold and precious metals.

If you require numismatic services in the future, we can on request supply you with recommendations of external numismatic service providers on a non-binding basis. From May 9,2011 onward we shall work together with Sincona Swiss International Coin Auction AG (Sincona AG) for our own numismatic business. From this date, the staff of Sincona AG will also be happy to assist you. They can be contacted at+41 (0)44215 10 90 or at info@sincona.com.

You are on the mailing list for UBS numismatics auction catalogs. To keep you informed about numismatic auctions we shall send you the next two catalogs of auctions organized by Sincona AG - as soon as they are available - with a covering letter. The first auction will take place from June 29 to July 1,2011.

We shall be happy to answer any queries you may have.

In spite of the fact that there were some issues involved with selling some fake Russian coins in their most recent auctions, I am disappointed that they are going this route because their auctions were highly respected and they always had a wide range of material in their offerings.

What experiences -- good or bad -- have you had in buying or selling through UBS coin auctions?

As an afterthought, another of the major Swiss coin dealers, LHS Numismatics, went out of business early last year. And NGSA in Geneva still hasn't updated their website, nor have they posted the prices realized from their last auction, in over a year.

Without these three, the only major Swiss dealer left today seems to be Hess-Divo in Zurich. The CEO is the son of F.R. Künker, so I would assume that they are pretty much controlled by the Künker family.

*a (UBS?)correspondent on russian forum informed that UBS numismatic just left UBS firm on its own and will continue provide numismatic servises but again out of UBS firm, only

*secondly, regarding a letter posted here, it does confirm that UBS numismatic just out of UBS firm and joined with Sincona Swiss International Coin Auction AG, which is OK with me, IMXO

*so far there are no information that UBS numismatic is out because of selling fake samples, IMXO

there are others financinal issues but not numismatics :)

there is an article about this matter http://www.muenzenwoche.de/de/page/4?&id=520

UBS trennt sich von ihrem Numismatikgeschäft

t vom 29. Juni bis 1. Juli 2011 in Zürich statt.

MünzenWoche: Gibt es irgendetwas, was Sie Ihren langjährigen Kunden mitteilen wollen?

Thanks for posting the text of the article! :art: I can help if anyone gets stuck in translating this to English, although except for the address of Sincona AG there really isn't anything new here.

When UBS had coins on display in Zurich before an auction, the address was also Pelikanstrasse ... probably more or less the same people will be involved. Maybe they will take their business more seriously than UBS did regarding the fakes they let slip through in some previous sales.
