"Rassia" (which is not the Czech word for Russia or Russian)

Actually, the pronunciation of «Россия» ("Rossiya" = "Russia" in Russian) is closer to "Rassia" than "Rossia" because the "o", being an unaccented syllable before the accented syllable, is pronounced like an "a" as in German "Gasse" (i.e. pronunciation is like "Rassíya" with the accent on the "i").

Russia in Chech is "Rusko", and Russian = "Rus", same in Slovak (I used to live there in 70-s). The seller must be from former Soviet states. There are a lot of Unkainian, Russian, and Belorusian people live there now. I'd say, that the guy who sells under that name is probably a little illitarate and has written as he hears it, not as it is written. "Rossiya" pronounced more like "Rasiya" with "a" pronounced as "u" in "ugly" and "ss" pronounced very short as single "s" by half Russian people, myself included... That gives so many ways of making a mistake (!!) as Rasia, Rusia, Rasiya, Rusiya, Rossia, Rosiya etc... Russia is written "Rossia" (Россия) in Russian, so another mistake that he could have made, would be, not knowing how to translate, and as he heard Russia called "Russia" in English movies, he could have written it as "Rassia", as "a" in Russian is pronounced as "u" in Russia. Brrr... Too much is written here now... Sorry.

is it an authentic NOVODEL coin? If it is how NOVODEL which supposed to be made for rare coin collectors could have so much wear.

This is why I started my interest in Novodel Denga's. Had this on my watch. It looks as authentic looking Novodel, and comparable to other known Novodel dies of Type 2 (http://coins.su/forum/index.php?showtopic=99414&st=25) ... However, I decided against buying this Novodel. That's the point of Novodels, having a copy of a coin in a really good condition UNC condition... Novodels, not coins per say, they are official fake coins that look good. If it was an original coin in this condition, it would be an extremely rare find, but they didn't make original coins in this year (http://www.coinpeople.com/index.php?/topic/33230-are-there-different-1762-novodel-pattern-denga-coin-types/page__fromsearch__1) Cheers!

It was made a long time ago. Remember what happened in 1917? 1941? Collectors die, dynasties fail, collections get lost and forgotten.

IMHO every coin that got to our days in MS condition is a small miracle!

My guess is that this coin probably ended up in kids' hands for some time, being played with and traded for other toys. Hence the wear.

Here's a nice coin but I'm surprised that NGC thought it is BM?! http://www.ebay.com/itm/330861542841

The slabbers just adopted the paying customer's wishful thinking. In fact the coin is clearly EM - as can be seen from the ciphers 2 (of 2 kopek and 1862).

Both coins are depicted in Michailovich and can be compared there . The ciphers 2 are very different with BM and EM. Just another mistake of the slab industry - but who cares anymore?

Sigi

No, I just wanted one. :) I seriously doubt that this could be anything but Ekaterinburg edge. This coin is struck at Ekaterinburg, and I don't think they had a lot of Moscow Mint coins there.

I've seen a few 1760 with the denomination above St. George, and always lost. So I just wanted to get this one, but once again I lost. :bgrumpy:

Overall they are not that common. And I really wanted to win it! :sorry:

I had the last one in my watch as well, again didn't bid. I didn't research it, but it looked 90% like a copy to me...
