Mexico City 8 reales with Ferdinand "IIV"???

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I am new to the forums so I apologize if I sound like a new guy. Anyway, not a big coin collector, but as a professional archaeologist, I am sometimes tasked with looking at various old and fairly corroded coins. The one in question appears to be an 8 reales, Mexico city mint mark, "TH" assayers, date appears to be 1808 or 1818 (have not cleaned it, yet). All things appear to checkout except that it appears to bear the name of Ferdinand IIV?? Feeling that this is an obvious counterfeit but I am intertested if any experts out there could shed some light on this coin and wether it could be an early typo of a real coin. Thanks in advance!
