ccg
If it's ANACS graded, the grade may not be generally accepted. PCGS, NGC, and ICCS (in no particular order) are the three main third party companies for which grades on Canadian coins are generally accepted (but of course they're not always perfect either). As such, one can't really put a value on it. (There's also a large spread between wholesale and retail on higher grade modern circulation strikes)
KEN 6
Thank you for replying.I was offered 350.00 for it but did not know if that was a fair price. KEN6
KoRnholio
Yeah, Anacs is generally pretty slack in grading Canadian coins. It may not even be a solid MS65. I'd have to see it in hand though. I'd say if you can get $350, go for it. Unless you really think it is solid for the grade and will cross to PCGS/ICCS at MS66. KEN 6
I haven"t tried crossing a Canadian coin from ANACS to PCGS.As of the last two years I haved crossed over about 14 coins from ANACS to PCGS mostly Eisenhower dollars. They all crossed over, and some were MS-67 coins, which I sold.My opinion is ANACS is very tight on their grading. The only reason I crossed them over was the buyer only wanted PCGS coins. Thanks for the reply. Ken6 I'm not questioning their reliability in US coin grading, I'm just giving what I know about Anacs and Canadian coins. It depends a lot on the series of coins, but I've seen silver and nickel Canadian coins in way overgraded Anacs holders. This 1932 half dollar for example: http://cgi.ebay.com/1932-Canada-50-cent-ANACS-Cert-VF-35-/130439680581?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item1e5ecf9245#ht_1779wt_1138 Looks to be F-15, *maybe* VF-20 if we don't doc marks for that nasty color/any marks the small photos don't show. Yet it resides in a VF35 Anacs holder. That coin is no where near EF, the seller knows this, which is why it's priced at less than the F-12 catalog price. KEN 6
That half dollar is in the old ANACS holder.Durring that time I believe ANACS were very loose in their grading even in US coins.I'm refering to the last two or three years with the new ANACS holders.Like they say buy the coin not the holder.
