the_nick
Hi, my grandmother passed away a few years ago and I found this coin amongst her belongings. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me anything about it. Thanks.
Saor Alba
Looks like it is either from Portuguese Guinea(Africa) or more likely Angola.

SMS
Your coin appears to be a 1763 1/2 Macuta from Angola that was counter struck in 1814. The legend on the reverse was originally: MACU TA 1 - 2 In 1814, many of these Angolan coins from 1762-1770 were counter-struck with the Portuguese arms. The face value of these coins were doubled. 1 Macuta = 50 reis. Hope that information helps. BTW, welcome to the forum!
