yvetteaug
I have an 1829 platinum russian 3 rouble coin (and some others e.g. 6, 12) but my question regards the value of the one I am currently having assessed and received an offer on - Because it is a perfect coin (cameo? uncirculated? sorry i use the wrong words i'm told) and is also encapsulated I was told it is a Novodel and was given an offer of $9000.00 to buy it but there is no marking on the coin or info to substantiate whether it's actually a novodel although the russian coin expert my coin specialist went through is more knowledgeable in russian coins than the average dealer I'm told but I don't wish to sell it unless I'm certain that it's a fair price. Can someone tell me 100% that there were no uncirculated, proof coins that were generated in 1829 for the platinum 3 ruble and how I would tell they're novodels and is 9000 a good offer? Thank you. You should really be asking this in the Russian forum: http://www.coinpeople.com/index.php?/forum/11-russian-coin-forums/ The Bitkin catalogue lists no novodels for 1829 3 roubles in platinum. However, these were apparently also struck as proof coins. What do you mean by "encapsulated"? Do you mean certified by a third-party grading service such as PCGS or NGC? Can you post any photos? You should also be aware that this series is heavily counterfeited, and even some experts have been fooled in the past...and both NGC and PCGS fake slabs have been seen (made in China)... You can check some recent prices here (site is only in Russian, but you can still easily see what the prices realized were): http://m-dv.ru/catalog/id,1595/all-prohod.html 6 and 12 rouble platinum coins are MUCH rarer than any of the 3 rouble issues except perhaps for 1830 no rosettes around 3 and the 1839 or 1840 issues -- of which the latter is unique, and of the former only 2 were struck. gxseries
I got a wierd feeling that it could be a proof coin considering how high his offer seems to be. Except there's a possiblity that it's still on the lower side of what a proof coin can be. Would be great if you can post pictures.
