Found this coin in my uncles old coin box that apparently came from some antique store in 1976 that closed down. It caught my attention because it had a sticker on it "RARE COIN $1500" so since it was priced the most expensively, it's the one I have been looking up and did a little research on it but I'm still lost as to how to tell what gives it off as a fake exactly (coin newb) I would appreciate it if you guys could just take a look and tell me what you think, Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Hussulo Posted September 2, 2010 Report Share Posted September 2, 2010 Its hard to tell 100% from pictures but I think it may be counterfeit. The writing doesn't appear to be as sharp as the ones I've seen pictures of: There appears to be raised areas in the field which ussually indicate casting: If you live in the US and you wanted to find out for certain it would be worth the small fee $30 ish of sending it to NGC or PCGS for authentication.
