ajuk
I have a 1983 pound coin the obverse and reverse look genuine but it lacks any edge letters, Can anybody tell me if it's valuable? Thankyou.
ScottO
it could be wear, but then again it could be an error, possibly the latter, how rare or value i couldn't say

ScottO
i have seen 1 or 2 myself where the lettering is thinner. on 80's £1. its unlikly but it might have been a weaker strike
Ætheling
Is it genuine? That's the question I would ask here, there are so many forgeries of this denomination in circulation, it's more likely to be one of those. The dark grey appearance around the central features of the coin (at least as my PC is showing it) is a tell tale sign. As fakes are often struck in a lead like alloy and plated the right colour. Thankyou. For a really spectacular error, such as a 10p struck on a 5p flan you're looking at £20-£30, so a likely fake £1 with no edge lettering? sadly, not much value at all.
