yarm
I purchased this medal (BHM #344) that was supposedly by L. Pingo, but this was disputed in Christopher Eimer's work, "The Pingo Family and Medal Making in 18th Century Britain? The exergue shows what I think is the signature "D.I.-P.F." but I've had no luck finding it in Forrer or other references. Does anyone know to whom this refers? constanius
Beautiful medal, whoever engraved it. I. P. F. could be for John Pingo Fecit, he was Lewis' brother & another of the medalists from the Pingo family. Why the D before & the funny spacing? yarm
Thanks, I've cast about some more but haven't confirmed the origin. The hyphen makes me thnk perhaps 2 individuals are being noted.
constanius
You could be right, so P.F. might still be for Pingo fecit still but D.I.? Perhaps one day you will find the answer, good luck. It is a fine medal & the puzzle of the initials just add some mystery to it.
