lekycoin
Hello Folks It has been a while since I've been on this forum. 'Hope everyone is well. I thought I'd share with you my most recent acquisition - a 1779 Almanac Coin (from Louis XVI). It's so purrrrty.... It shows moon phases, Sundays of the month, start of seasons etc. I have tried to find info on this item but can't find anything on the net anywhere. I saw an English version but not the French one. Any info / thoughts on this coin would be much appreciated. Thank you Cheers from Australia LekyCoin

constanius
Very nice. Louis XVI was guillotined in 1793, this was a french calendar medal, probably made by Powell, or Kempson, both of Birmingham England see http://www.coinpeople.com/index.php?showto...0&hl=powell. Try searching for "french calendar medal" not almanac http://www.icollector.com/Revolutionary-Wa...l-1779_i7397679 The french medals are much rarer than the english ones as they were only made intermittently, whereas the english ones were made from 1742-1834. Where your medal is engraved EPACTA XII is where Powell & Kempson put their names on the english calendar medals. Epacta(epact in english) is the number used to convert the solar year to the lunar year.
