Karl Philipp Schwarzenberg 1815

Recommended Posts

Just one titbit from wikipedia:

In 1599 the coat of arms was expanded by Adolf zu Schwarzenberg with the head of a Turk pecked by a raven, to symbolize the conquest of a Turkish fortress in Hungary known as Raab in German (Raab means "raven" in German, hence the symbology).

How that man survived being the commander of the main army with Alexander, Francis and Frederich Wilhelm kibitzing over his shoulder I've never figured out...

It's a beautiful medal in stunning condition; I've always loved blackened iron pieces.
