TroyMosher
What do you think of the grade for this coin?
thedeadpoint
VG or Fine at best by American standards
KoRnholio
I'd say VG, though I don't know this series very well. You might have some luck looking up auctions of ICCS grade Newfoundland half dollars on ebay, to get an idea of how they are (properly) graded. ccg
Strong VG, cleaned.
marv
Typically, when the hair is worn into the design as is the case with this coin, the grade is no more than good, but it depends on the design to some extent, how shallow it is and what the highest point is. Canadian coin grading is stricter than American coin grading, but still not as strict (not sure if that's the word I am looking for) as European coin grading. Here's an example that ICCS graded VG10. The coin in this thread is probably a solid VG8, there's a bit more missing on/behind the ear. http://cgi.ebay.com/1882H-ICCS-GRADED-Newf...96#ht_500wt_928
