Andrey5
I received this commemorative rouble from an auction today. http://avscoins.com/Rouble-1834.jpg It weights 20,63 g. a little less than catalog value 20,73, but this could be explained by wear. I am not sure about its authenticity because there is a die crack on reverse across the word rouble which I have not seen on this type before. With mintage of only 15000 are there known authentic examples with such a die crack or is this a fake?

IgorS
Just the other day was reading about fake 1834 with die cracks on both sides. Can not recall where I saw it.

Andrey5
Check here, maybe you'll find something:http://m-dv.ru/catalog/id,2928/all-prohod.html Thanks for the link to the database of sold coins. I found 5 coins struck with the same cracked reverse die. During the last 2 years they were sold by: St. James’s Auctions http://m-dv.ru/catalog/prohod,2164/coins,2...,305/photo.html Auktionhaus H. D. Rauch GmbH & La Galerie Numismatique http://m-dv.ru/catalog/prohod,6243/coins,2...,625/photo.html Fritz Rudolf Kuenker GmbH http://m-dv.ru/catalog/prohod,9087/coins,2...3003/photo.html Gorny & Mosch GmbH http://m-dv.ru/catalog/prohod,8835/coins,2...6413/photo.html and at Molotok http://m-dv.ru/catalog/prohod,37041/coins,...4519/photo.html All coins have the same die crack across letter У in РУБЛЬ and another along РОССIЯ, across 4 in 1834 ending at letter Я in БЛАГОДАРНАЯ. This second die crack is particularly well visible on coin images from Rauch and Molotok, though it exists on all 5 coins above as well as on mine. Other marks (scratches, rim nicks, bag marks) seem to be different and coins' conditions are also different, which should be a good sign. I would not be surprised if a fake is sold at Molotok, but all 4 respected auction houses above are unlikely to be all mistaken and sell fake coins. Would you agree that some (probably small) part of the mintage of this commemorative rouble seems to have been struck with a cracked reverse die? Andrey5
Two additional examples of this rouble with the same reverse die cracks sold by reputable auction houses: Fritz Rudolf Kuenker GmbH http://m-dv.ru/catalog/prohod,1060/coins,2...8572/photo.html Heritage Auction Galleries http://m-dv.ru/catalog/prohod,29401/coins,...4618/photo.html This last one is graded by NGS.
