thedeadpoint
In another thread, there is discussion about how Britannia's image on British coins inspired certain Liberty designs on US coins. I'm curious to know more about how other nations influenced US designs. Do you know of any good examples?
ccg
IMO the 1858 silver (1/2, 1, 2, and 5 reales) coins of Venezuela bear a striking resemblance to the later US "V" nickel obverse.
Hussulo
Barber dime portrait a copy of French 5 Franc? Here is an image I produced by lining them both up and use transparency on Photoshop I think there is too match of a match to be a coincidence. Disregarding the hair/cap the neck is slightly wider/slender but the features are almost a perfect match:
thedeadpoint
Thanks, Huss. I did a quick google search and I can't find the obverse of the Frenchie. Could you post it?
thedeadpoint
Closest I can find: Interesting. It does look very similar and its just a few years before the Barber was created. I'll have to look more into the Barber designs and see if Barber was a traveller.
