Sir Sisu
Here is one of my recent additions. This 1918 dated tallero was struck for the Italian colony of Eritrea. According to the Italian Gigante catalogue, this coin was struck at the behest of private individuals (business leaders perhaps?) to compete with the Maria Theresa thaler which still circulated. The new tallero did not supplant the use of the thaler and thus was not continued. It remained a one year type. Here is a sample of the tallero and thaler. You can see how the tallero tried to immitate the look of the thaler. (in each pairing the tallero is on top)
ccg
Neat! I've never seen one before - the survival rate must had been pretty low (in addition to low mintage)
