I know the new $100 should be coming out either this year or beginning of 2011, and should have some new security features that have not been seen before on US currency. The purpose of new designs is to improve security, making it harder to counterfeit. There is no plans to redesign the $1 and $2 notes. I guess nobody bother to counterfeit these low denominations.
