Mat25
Hello, I picked up this groat recently, it was sold to me as spink 2100 (edward IV second reign groat with rose on brest) and it may well be spink 2100. It looks to me that the rose may not be a rose as it doesn't look like the rose I have found on a similar coin, it looks more like a cinquefoil. Also the mintmark on this groat is a little unclear, so I was wondering if anyone can confirm exactly what this coin is??? All opinions welcome. This is the groat (above) and below are a couple of pictures from the groat I have compared mine with which allegedly is also spink 2100. Mat25
Although I can't find another Edward IV groat in Spink or North that has a cinquefoil on the brest.
YeOldeCollector
What you have looks to be a normal example of this type of groat with the rose on breast and heraldic cinquefoil as mintmark. Although, the slight double-striking of the coin in the 'CIVI' quarter has resulted in a blundering of the mintmark. A nice portrait on this piece though! Mat25
Thanks Clive! I thought it must be but I like to get an unbiased opinion. It certainly does have a nice portrait, I am quite pleased with it.
Mat25
I have just noticed that it seems to be missing a fleur on one of the cusps, is this normal do you know? I know they are omitted on many coins from the two cusps abouve the crown but I have never seen one missing from the side.

I, for one, have not seen many coins with a fleur omitted and so you've got yourself a very nice coin. Something which a serious Edward IV collector would be keen to acquire. Mat25
That is nice to know. How much do you think it may be worth to an Edward IV collector? Not that I know any Edward IV collectors and I wouldn't really want to sell it, I am just curious.

Very hard to say as it is entirely worth what someone would be prepared to pay, and there aren't many said Edwardian specialists about.
