Art Salmons
I received this coin today and other then it's quite thin and made in 1787 and that's a US Nickel 2x2 flip that it's in I have no clue what it is as I don't have a coin book from the 1700's. The coin has almost a translucent orange toning that the scanner didn't capture very well.

YeOldeCollector
What is the diameter of this coin? (I am not familiar with US coins ) It's either a sixpence or shilling and there are various varieties of each.
ccg
Yep, nickel sized would make it a tanner.
Ætheling
1787 sixpence, hearts variety. If you look at the German shield on the left, the lion that is standing has 'v' shaped hearts surrounding it. There was an error (or rather an omission) on the part of the die cutters for some of these sixpences, where they forgot to put the hearts in. So some 1787 sixpences are heartless (and cruel and nasty t'boot! )
