In my opinion, this is a crude FAKE.

Here's what a real one looks like:

Absolutely a cast counterfeit.

I don't know if it is cast or not, but if it is cast, then, in my opinion, a crude counterfeit was used to make the mold for it. The dies do not match any original example known to me and the style is not faithful to genuine examples.

The St. Petersburg issue of Ioann's grivennik is a pattern. It was considered a great rarity in the Grand Duke's time with only a few examples known and found only in the greatest of collections. The Moscow issue is the only one that a collector has any reasonable hope of obtaining.

In my opinion, the chance that this piece is real is 0.000%.
