I recently got a hold of a model bimetallic penny and a model bimetallic gothic crown.

Now while information on the model penny is easy to find, including on CoinPeople :ninja: , I have not had much luck with getting biographical detail on H. HYAM. Anyone?

The offending coin in question is linked below:

SILVERSMITH

He was a London silversmith & jeweller with the makers mark 'HH' a silver teapot made in London in 1826 bears one of his early marks. His mark was registered Apr 1821

Hyam Hyams 1813-1857 according to BHM Vol. 3, perhaps should be 1803-1857! Also some pieces of Hyams silver are dated way past 1857 but that could be because the company still traded under his name or BHM is wrong, again!

Editor of , Medals, Medalets, Jettons Etc. (early part of Queen Victoria's reign) Issued a series of Model Crowns in 1848, the dies of which were cut by Allen & Moore.

From an auction:

"TWO CASED SOVEREIGN ROCKERS , CIRCA 1830. the first by Hyam Hyams, at the Old Established Bullion Office, 22 Cornhill, London, the other unsigned" LINK

A sovereign rocker was used to detect lightweight coins.

Messrs. Griffin and Hyams of Cornhill, London, have also struck a medal, executed by J. Barber, in commemoration of her Majesty's visit to the city on the 9th of November. It is of large size (2 inches in diameter), and bears on the obverse a portrait of the Queen, after a drawing by J. R. Lane, legend, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA REGINA. The reverse represents her Majesty standing on a dais receiving the sword from the Lord Mayor, and attended by Fame and Abundance. In the exergue is the inscription—In Commemoration or Her Majesty's Visit To The City Of London, Nov. 9, 1837, and below THE RIGHT HONOURABLE JOHN COWAN, LORD MAYOR.
