Ætheling
My excuse? deadpoint told me to, nay ordered me to! Well that's my excuse and i'm sticking to it. Hee,hee... Well that's the 1927P down... eyes open for a 1926 next, or '25... see if I can't nail these 'type 3' (As I like to call them).
thedeadpoint
What are type 3s? Is this a MS65 with a weak strike? I can't see much detail on the eagle's breast, part of her shield, or the plaques. Great coin, though! I think this is the forgotten series of the 20th century. Ætheling
According to the slab *cough* (you didn't hear that...) it's an MS63 FH, to be honest I don't pay much attention to the MS grades, I just wanted a nice BU coin, saw it, liked it, bought it. Weak strike, they do tend towards weak strike in this series, the shield area in particular even on FH specimens often seems to be missing detail. Maybe these should be judged on the shields rather than the heads? Full shield variety? eek. No Syl don't give them ideas. Type 3 (my term only as far as i'm aware). Up until 1924 the date was prone to wearing off so in 1925 they started recessing the date area so that it would wear better.
Ætheling
Actually comparing with the 1930 which isn't a FH coin, notice the better strike overall, but the shield is still weak in the same spot.

Ætheling
I'm thoroughly enjoying it Art, Even though it's somewhat removed from what I usually dabble in!
