elverno
c. 1794 ½ Penny Token, Great Britain 29.5mm - Details - relatively C One of Britain's most respected actors of the time, though descriptions of his style would lead you to believe he wouldn't translate well to our century. David Garrick was also a businessman who ran the famous Drury Lane theater for many years and is buried in the Poet's Corner at Westminister Abbey. This the second of these tokens on my site and I bought it because of two curious countermarks on the reverse. They don't appear to fulfill a commercial function as countermarks usually do; rather they just look like a flourish someone decided to add.
