What's the "crown" of your collection?

Hello everyone!

Here's a question for every collector: What's the coin or coin set in your collection you are most proud of?

Here's my top 5 (haven't scanned every coin):

1) 1898 Commemorative rouble

2) Silver coin set of 1917 (10,15,20K) http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=968424

3) Silver coin set of 1859 (5,10,20,25K, Poltina, Rouble(Commem)). Regular issue rouble still missing. http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=955005

4) 1834 Commemorative rouble http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=968421

5) 1829 Poltina http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view.aspx?id=958755

I suppose it would be my 1602 Sword & Sceptre piece.

It's my only hammered gold Scottish coin and because I always wanted one. I have read quite a lot about James VI (1st of England/ Britain), I can associate with it. It did take some digging deep + selling off other coins to buy it. I watched it for several months while I saved hoping no one would buy it before me.

My favorite is this copper plate grivna.

Another is my current avatar coin, the 1727 gold 2 roubles of Peter II and his 1729 ducat.

This 1763 Moscow rouble of Catherine II (overstruck on a re-edged rouble of Peter III) is another.

Hi 'janneen'. This is a tough choice, but here are a few I consider my pride and joy.

1.) SIBERIA 10 Kopek 1777- Except for a flan defect, this coin is in uncirculated condition or nearly so: http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=968767

2.) BOSNIA (BANATE) AR Dinar 1322-1353 AD- A very rare coin from medieval Bosnia: http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=956842

3.) MOLDAVIA & WALLACHIA 1 Para/3Dengi 1772 (Large Crown)- Extremely difficult to find in high grade: http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=948372

4.) SERBIAN EMPIRE AR Dinar c. 1346 AD- Coronation Dinar issued under Tsar: Stefan Uros IV (Dusan) 1346-1355 AD. Marking Serbia's rise from a kingdom to an empire: http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=958531

5.) CHIOS AV Zecchino 1415-1436 AD- Under Venetian sovereignty during the rule of Doge/Duke: Philip Marie Visconti: http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=949240

From the US, this is an 1844 Seated Liberty Dime. An extremely rare dime in which only 72,500 coins were minted: http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=950698

To all who posted so far - Great Coins!!!

I don't know if any of my stuff is presentable enough after the material shown above. But I like all of my coins and that makes it hard to pick favorites. I'll try to pick out things that are a bit easier on the eye.

1) Polushka 1773 EM - http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=957812

2) 5 kopeeks 1803 EM - http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=951091

3) 2 kopeeks 1863 BM - http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=947534

4) 1 rouble 1909 - http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=947421

5) Fake Dutch Trade Ducat - http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx?id=947056

I also like wire coins:

Welcome aboard 'vladimir'. I'm with 'alexbq2', this is a beautiful coin. I've never seen this pattern before. I have one under Queen: Tamara & King: David 1184-1231 AD which is slightly more common (slightly). In any case thanks for sharing.

Beautiful Tamaran coins 'vladimir'. These are probably among the best specimens I've seen for their sharp detail. I've heard that too, that the undated coins are rarer than the dated coins. Thanks for posting these.

What is the countermark on the first coin? I am not familiar with these Georgian coins.

Google translation from original English to Russian: http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en

Google перевод с оригинального Английский на русском языке: http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=ru

Что такое контрольное на первой монете? Я не знаком с этим грузинские монеты.

I think that’s the counter stamp on the first coin. Vladimir says that coins without the counter stamps are much rarer.

I see what you mean. I am hoping that if both English and Russian versions of the message are there (so that people who do not speak/read/understand Russian will not feel excluded) then that will be acceptable.

As a person who speaks very little Russian, I certainly appreciate people posting in English.

For Russian text, there is google translation available. I gave Vladimir a link in which he can enter Russian text and get an English translation which he can copy and paste into his posts here along with his original Russian text. Google is not ideal, but usually good enough that the meaning of the message can be understood. http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=ru The presence of the original Russian text would help in that those who are fluent in both languages could then correct any strange words used in the translated text to make the original meaning clearer.

Also, for Firefox users, there is a handy extension called "Russ key" which will provide computerized translation and transliteration to and from Russian. Again, not perfect, but helpful. http://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/561

It is pretty easy for me. I wanted a coin from this set (I never hoped to collect the full set (6 coins + a novodel) since I bought a Uzdenikov book in 1987. Thanks to one of the members here I own it. :ninja:

Yep. Then there is my avatar coin. That was another dream come true to get a coin with that stamp. I tried to get one "crown" copper coin for every emperor. (Except a few emperors, which are impossible to get). I have nothing before Elisabeth, because truly rare or beautiful copper predating 1755 is just impossible. I could buy a Grivna plate, and a few 5 kop novodel plates, but was too stupid or too stingy to get them. Now it is too late. I got Elisabeth, missed a few chances at 1762 1 kop, Catherine II, Paul, Alexander, Nicholas. I stopped there, for the prices just took off. Now, with 3 kids, I am pretty much done buying. Maybe after they graduate from college I will be back. For now, I am updating my library and reading up on stuff.

Here is a coin from my collection I like a lot. I call it "divorce" rouble. Catherine II image is overstruck on Peter III image with both portratis visible.

And it looks even better in person. It is a very nice coin, but I like your coppers better. :ninja:
