sandy3075
I've just bought (but not yet received) a couple of earlier French essais. Althought they are authenticated by NGC, neither one can be found in Krause-Michler, so I am thinking of buyng a French catalog instead. Can anyone tell me what is the full name of the catalogues abbreviated referenced as MAZ by most dealers and authentication services? And if you know where I can get one it will be great as well. Thank you in advance, Alex
frank
From looking at French sites, the reference might be to F. Mazerolle, Les médailleurs français du XVe siècle au milieu du XVII (Paris, 1902). There are several volumes. It doesn't seem to be in print; I've been looking for an online version, so far no luck. There are other works by Mazerolle; this title may not be the reference catalogue you're looking for.
tabbs
From what I know, "MAZ" usually refers to the Mazard catalog: Jean Mazard, Histoire monétaire et numismatique contemporaine. Two volumes, published in the late 1960s ... Christian
sandy3075
Thank you Frank and Christian, I think that Jean Mazard is probably the right lead although I was unable to find it on-line. Will keep looking if I really like these coins may start a new branch in my collection although they sure are a bit expensive. Not these two specimen, I got 1842 2 centimes for $70 and 1946 50 centimes piefort for $80, both NGC MS65 graded, seems like a stroke of luck, they are usually higher priced.
