Andrey5
I bought a group of Russian coins at an auction. There was this Katherine II Poltina 1778. Looks like Bitkin 297, which is marked "R". The coin weights 11.25 g. Would you think it's a fake or an authentic coin? http://avscoins.com/Poltina-1778.jpg

Andrey5
genuine one, however even R by Bitkin - its condition is pretty much low These scratches on obverse are of course terrible, can't imagine, why did somebody damage the coin in such a way. But my concern is more with the fact that it's sound is not as long and high as a silver struck coin should have. Could there be an explanation, maybe a cavity in the planchet, or something else?
