Mat25 0
Hello, I know this is probably the wrong place to post about a Russian medal, but I didn't know where the right place is, so here goes. I picked up this medal in a junk shop in France and was wondering if anyone knows what it is? what the inscription says? Whats its value is? and anything else that could be of interest? I have tried to translate the inscription but havn't had much luck! The medal is very large, about 7-8 cm across, and heavy too
Scottishmoney 0
Well it commemorates an international basketball competition curiously enough, but invokes Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space, if that helps. I am thinking that Russia/USSR won the 1972 Basketball game in the Olympics, but this medal was made in 1976, and commemorates the Yuri Gagarin prize. BTW Yuri Gagarin died in a MIG-15 crash in 1968, so the prize must have been some posthumous creation in his honour.
