elverno
1820 Death of George III, Great Britain BHM 994 - Details - 25mm - Fairly common While this is a fairly common death medal they usually show up in pretty poor condition. They were a cheap keepsake made by Kettle & Sons, the British equivalent of the Lauers in the German States. This particular example is probably as close to uncirculated as you'll find with the center reverse weakness probably caused from the metal being pulled to fill the obverse bust. It's a major upgrade from my previous piece and might actually use a different obverse die, the "D" in GOD being distinctly different.

Scottishmoney
Later on Kettle & Co started cranking out brass copies of many USA and other foreign gold coins. They were "Chinese" before their time, and didn't even know it.

You were not kidding about a major upgrade!!! Nice example. At least Kettle supplied for the hoi polloi, there were so many others producing more expensive medals for the other social classes.
