sturzny
1912S (San Francisco) 10 centavo from Philippines as a U.S. possession. The U.S. took the Philippines from Spain at the end of the Spanish-American war and it became essentially a U.S. territory. At the time most of the silver coins in circulation were of Spanish design, in denominations of 10, 20, 50 centimos and 1 peso. The U.S. redesigned the coinage but kept the same denominations, although they changed the name of the fractional denomination to "centavo". In 1935 the coinage changed again as the Philippines were granted a form of self-government as a U.S. commonwealth.
