Hans Urmiller was a judge and administrator in the city of Wolfratshausen during the 1520's. The portraits used in the 1960 50 Deutsche Mark and the 1922 5,000 Mark banknotes are from a Barthel Beham 1525 painting entitled "Portrait of Hans Urmiller and his Son". The original artwork is on display in The Städel art museum in Frankfurt. It's companion piece, "Portrait of Margaret Urmiller and her Daughter", is on display at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The Holstentor Gate is one of four original entrances to the old town of Lübeck. As an important trading city in the north, Lübeck was regarded for several centuries as the "capital" of the Hanseatic League. The Holstentor Gate was erected by the city master builder Hinrich Helmsted between 1464 and 1478. It consists of two towers with an arched entranceway between them. A front gate was added in 1585 to improve defences, but it was later demolished.
