Ludovicus XV jeton

Recommended Posts

This jeton is from Iohann Iacob Dietzel (fl 1711-1748), thus the I I D on the exergue on the reverse. The woman is an allegory of Fortune, who is sometimes represented as being carried on the wind by a sail; she usually also holds a cornucopia, which may be hidden under the cuds here.

Here's a variant I found online: 2004-04-24120128-1.jpg

The reverse text is DIVINIS IN REGNA VOCAMUR AUSPICIS... maybe "We are called to the throne by divine auspices"?
