NumisMattic2200
To quote the auction's description of this piece; Strange piece of hammered silver, reminds one of the Commonwealth period, we have no idea what it is but was found in a collection of hammered silver pieces, needs to be viewed So I put it to the boffins at CoinPeople, does anyone know what this piece actually is??? YeOldeCollector
Looks like repousse silver, I'm thinking some sort of stud decoration for a leather belt. Absolute guess though, it could be anything.
constanius
It looks (to me) to be a stylized bird.
NumisMattic2200
Good imagination Constantius. This I actually picked up at an auction - I got it for the lower estimate, pity it doesn't look like it's likely to be worth much if it isn't really a coin. NumisMattic2200
That was my first thought.
Brian2
The design looks to be a styalised angel. Probably the front half of a locket.
