How many overstrikes can you count?

Definitely interesting and bizarre. My best would be having two overstrikes over Krestovik 5K

Steve, would that happen to be in one of your archived files or from your personal collection? Would be interesting to see a large closeup if it was available. So far, the only additional information I can add is that it was overstruck in 1756, St. Petersburg. More dates would be very interesting.

Thanks for showing Steve!

Yes, I thought it was neat :ninja:

I came across it today going through Spink's online archives. Unfortunately that's the best resolution I've found on their website. The first time it was offered it didn't sell (60GBP estimate). It was re-offered in Nov 08 and did sell for 80GPB, reasonable for a Peter III copper. Sorry I missed it.

I like your coin too gx !

5 kop -- 1 kop -- 2 kop -- 4 kop. (as should be as some dealers would say) Did I miss any? :ninja: Very nice. Can you see some of the dates?

Well...I see the 6 (from a 1756 1K as gx correctly points out) up at 11 o clock on the reverse. However, the 1K CPB mintmark on the obverse is down at around 6pm. Something is not lined up. ;)

Steve, that is the problem that I had when I got my bizarre overstruck coin. I think most people forget to factor die alignment which in this case the Baroque kopek was struck on a coin alignment instead of a medal alignment like most of the Russian coins throughout its history.

Using a half dollar is an excellent example. I would say that the mintmark SPB is more towards 7 o'clock instead of 6. Suppose if we are to rotate the head side of the coin (Kennedy) for let's say about 20 degrees so that the mintmark looks like it's aligned at 7 o'clock. Now flip the coin SIDE BY SIDE, not the usual up-down flipping. Where would the half dollar text align to?

I believe the alignment is about right :ninja:

You are quite right, of course. Now everything makes sense. :ninja:

I see four denominations (so three overstrikes).

Krestovik 5K --> Elizabeth Baroque 1K --> Elizabeth 2K --> Peter III 4K

Wow!

please welcome to consider mine -

I think I see a 1788 MM 2K struck on a Peter 4K (as usual). However, the new coin then got flipped over and restruck. We get the new 2K obverse and reverse on both sides (you can see both dates if you look hard enough) with traces of the 4K. Very nice!
