Thailand 50 polymer bahts extinct?

Recommended Posts

I just heard from friends who came back from Thailand just this month that the polymer 50 bahts don't exist any longer or more probably, not printed any longer and instead reverted back to the paper version.

Can anyone confirm that the polymer notes still do circulate or rather, as rumors say, ceased printing? Who knows...

thailand stopped issuing polymer notes in 2004. among their reasons for discontinuing them were:

unpopularity with the public

difficulty in counting them rapidly

discoloration over time

unable to withstand high temperatures

worn notes weren't attractive-looking

there are also rumors of the paper note lobby being too strong. out of all of their reasons, the paper lobby sounds like the biggest deciding factor.
