KoRnholio
Advertised as an NGC AU-50 grade 1926 Canadian Nickel, far 6 variety (the significantly more rare version). The grade is utterly wrong. It would be a stretch to grade that coin F-15 let alone AU. I can't tell definitively based on the reverse pics if it's even the far 6 variety. Onto the slab itself. I don't know that much about slabs, but those white parts on the seal seem suspect. Many of my NGC slabs (with properly graded coins in them) have some spots like that, but none as bad as this one. Thoughts? EDIT- I took another look at it, and I don't see any way this is legit. I reported the item to Ebay, we'll see if they do anything about it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...bayphotohosting
NumisMattic2200
Could it be one of the ones where they opened the case of a genuine slabbed coin, removed the real high grade coin and replaced it with a crappy, low grade thing worth less than a tenth no doubt???? KoRnholio
That is what I think as well. The NGC label seems fine. The coin is definitely not the one that was originally in that slab. I have two NGC graded 1926 nickels myself (an AU near 6 and an XF far 6) that seem properly graded and attributed. They look too large in my opinion but I don't have the coin in hand. They may have just soldered the case together.
KoRnholio
I also sent a note off to the seller with my concerns about this coin, mentioning that if he bought it on EBay, he should definitely return it. He messaged me back saying he will report my concerns to Ebay client services and will ask their guidance in the matter.
NumisMattic2200
Argh... another sad tale of woe that originates from the fabled site....
constanius
Surely, anyone who the slightest idea about grading could see that the coin was not AU from the pics, makes you wonder about the seller but also about the 4 bidders. Dockwalliper
Make that 9 bidders. Still....Reserve not met.
KoRnholio
"The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale." Reserve still wasn't met. Zero response from Ebay since I reported this item 4 days ago. Funny how Ebay is so quick to pull down my auctions when I forgot to change my return policy (where I mentioned slabbed coins, including PCI as one of the types) that had nothing to do with the item in question... constanius
Make that 9 bidders. Still....Reserve not met. Only 4 actual bidders, some with multiple bids, 10 bids in total by the end of auction.
