hiho
An Edinburgh that has seen some circulation..... A Buckinghamshire in great condition..... A Lincolnshire with a super nice lion and harbor view..... And my favorite, a Kent with the slogan "May Hops For Ever Flourish". I'll drink to that! thedeadpoint
All great tokens! I think I've asked this before but what is a Conder token? Local currency? I like the Edinburgh one the best, probably because of the wear.

bill
All great tokens! I think I've asked this before but what is a Conder token? Local currency? I like the Edinburgh one the best, probably because of the wear. Some provided small currency to pay workers and conduct business at a time when the British government was only issuing gold and silver coins that represented too high a denomination for daily needs. Others were produced purely for the collector market or were counterfiets, many of which circulated alongside legitimate pieces because they were needed for commerce to take place. The book, Good Money, is an excellent study of their role in the British economy of the period.
