Benz Gemz
Looks like cast fakes to me, but I'm not expert in Russian coins. I would be suspicious of anything out of China in any case. Ben

Ben I don't think Chinese cast these, they have little presses that strike them. Somebody posted a picture of one, on this forum sometime ago. sturzny
In fact they have big presses that strike them. In China this has gone beyond the status of a cottage industry and has become big business. They have master hubs that are cut by computer. Most of the cast stuff now I think comes out of Eastern Europe, where there are still a lot of guys working solo in their basement or whatever. This kind of thing makes me want to quit the hobby altogether. It's getting to the point where you cannot even assume ANYTHING is real anymore. There is no coin they will not attempt to fake. It must be quite easy and inexpensive to choose a new issue to fake. What's worse is that someone with real numismatic knowledge is directing them, telling them what to fake next. Like a doctor advising on the best way to kill a patient without leaving a trace.
