syzygy
I reimaged this tonight and I think I posted it a couple of years ago. What do you make of this coin? Do you see an error or errors? If so, what kind? Just after-mint damage? I have made up my mind (sort of) but thought some others might like to see and comment. bill
Looks like poorly annealed metal. The planchet appears to have been coming appart and some fragments impressed into the planchet on the reverse. Either that or the reverse die had some strange cuds and filling them weaken the rest of the planchet. I'm guessing the first, the metal was failing when struck. corkykile
Great picture! Obverse: 10:00 planchet peel/die crack. Maybe a die crack on the jaw line. Reverse: 10:00 die chip, 8:00 die crack from the flowers, 3:00 die chip at rim... the shape of the die chip suggests it could be from a dropped letter. At 1:00 possibly a die crack from the rim above the P and above the E to the rim. Probably a failing die. corky
