Anyone for French Francs?

Recommended Posts

Hey all I have a large amount of French Francs that could be worth well over 100 GBP but obviously I cannot do much with them without being able to take them into a French bank. Is there anyone who could help me out and make a little profit for themselves at the same time? If anyone lives in France and is interested, or can otherwise help me out then please PM me or respond here...

"Exchanging national cash" - list:

If they are bigger denominations you can get nice price if you sell them on internet auction. What would be the weight of the coin lot? I have sold coins out in 950g lots for € 7-11 per lot.

Are you perhaps confusing the French Franc with the two French colonial currencies CFA Franc (Africa) and CFP Franc (Pacific) which still circulate? ;)

If you find someone willing to take them as Euro then bite their hand off, even if it does mean you end up with a 4 month supply of French cheese :ninja:

Sorry I don't think you are necessarily right in calling businesses real idiots as a similar concept (berkshares and the totnes pound, also one in Germany I can't recall the name of) of using a regional currency has been employed to keep money coming back into a local area, which builds the businesses up in a region...

In any case I got the hoard for less than twenty quid so whatever I do with them I am not a fool. :ninja:

I wasn't saying that, if pre-Euro currency can still be exchanged somewhere for Euro then accepting them is a great way to boost business in an area or for charities to raise extra money. If however they are trying to treat the pre-Euro currency like it is still an acctual currency (storing it, giving out non-Euro change) then they are deluding themselves, and at financial risk too. They need to just get over it.

Define'value'...

Value is in the eye of the beholder :ninja:

The only thing which gives a currency value is the trust that it will return a stable level of goods or services, since the Bank of France which issued these coins with a guarantee of value has now wrote them off they will no longer honour any value (euro) for them, therefore nobody else will be willing to give you goods or services at their previous value as they know that the Bank will no longer honour their previous value. They are now worth scrap and sentimental value and if someone offers you more than scrap for them bite their hand off.

You'll all have to excuse me since I'm just an American that only knows our monitary system.

By the way what is a HOARD? 20 QUID FOR A HOARD?

For example the term French Franc sounds to much like French Fry and I eat those all the time. Is a Franc something like a Fry? :ninja:

OK so what is berkshares and the totnes pound? This to me almost sounds like some kind of cooking show. ;)

Well if you only paid twenty quid (or is it Squid)?

I like that selling them on the internet for about 20 pounds. 20 pounds of what? ;)

Just kidding folks. To many are getting way to serious about a decent purchase. Anyone remember how to help and/or congradulate someone?
