numismatistnick
The other day while I was metal detecting I found an unusual modern dime. I think it is on a cent planchet or without the clad layer. If anyone has any info on this coin it would be greatly appreciated!! http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view.aspx?id=950916 Thanks for looking!! amac44
Nice error! Only one thing could be better if found it in a mint set
LostDutchman
unfortunately its not an error... looks like someone really messed it up... and then the ground did its worst... but an error, I sure dont think so
syzygy
unfortunately its not an error... looks like someone really messed it up... and then the ground did its worst... but an error, I sure dont think so Yeah doesn't look like that happened at the mint. From the photo, it looks like it was encased and hammered. Did it maintain any reeding on the edge? If you want to follow up, get the precise weight. Remember that all cents after 82 were copper-plated zinc and weigh 2.5 gms. Clad dimes weigh 2.27 gms. See where your piece falls - my guess is more than 2.5 gms based on a hunch that it was encased. numismatistnick
Hello, I found this link that describes a coin similar to mine. Thank all of you for the information!! http://en.allexperts.com/q/Coin-Collecting...7/2004-dime.htm
numismatistnick
The dime has no edge reeding at all and weighs 2.42g. At first I thought it was encased and from an old piece of jewelery. Under magnification it is obvious that it is from one solid planchet that was somehow folded in. Thanks again guys.
