numismatistnick
I have had this coin for a while now and can't seem to find out much about it. I think it is from 1875-1908 but I don't know what type it is or the value. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your time. http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view.aspx?id=950383 Nick
ccg
Hi Nick, It's a Kwangtung province issue machine-struck 1 cash coin. 1875-1908 are the years of Emperor Kuang Hsu (wade-giles transliteration). This type is from the 1890s, and the mintage is in the billions. It is by far the most common 19th century Chinese coin. There are two sub-varieties, with slightly different weights (there was a weight reduction from 7 qian to 6 qian about 1895). Krause cat. is <$1. Kwangtung province was the first province in China to switch to using machines for striking coins, in 1889. If you want more info, lmk.
