sigistenz
See here my latest acquisition: The CM 3 kopecks were way less attactive than the coins of the other mints. This one is sure not a beauty but it is already an exceptional piece - as compared with the Aalborg coin. Enjoy, Sigi By sigistenz

alexbq2
Congrats Sigi! Looks good for an CM. You mentioned the Aalborg coin earlier, I’m just curious how much did that sell for?
sigistenz
Congrats Sigi! Looks good for an CM. You mentioned the Aalborg coin earlier, I’m just curious how much did that sell for? It was in RUSSIA IV, graded AF and sold for DKK 300 ($51) plus 20%. Hit the link below. Sigihttp://www.hoiland-stamps.dk/default.aspx?...;s=&c1=1001 Hi Sigi, There is a world of difference between your coin and the Aalborg piece, which seems heavily worn by comparison (interesting in itself given that this collection was generally of high quality). Am I correct in my assumption that the generally lower quality of the Kolyvan coins was due to remoteness from the capital, possibly more primitive minting conditions and equipment as a result, and the likelihood of the coins remaining in circulation longer due to a coin shortage in the frontier area? If my questions seem silly, please bear in mind that I am not a copper specialist (even though my collection includes copper coins). Thanks in advance for any reply. BKB
Very nice color. This is my 1840 cm. Still looking for 1839 cm 3 kop and 1/4 kop. If anyone has a duplicate, I am interested.
alexbq2
I only have 1839 1/4 kop CM (no duplicates). I doubt I'll ever get the 1839 3 kop CM 1840 3 kop CM I did win, but the seller never contacted me. Possibly because I won it for $5.50, oh well... http://www.coinpeople.com/index.php?showto...&hl=strange
IgorS
Last month at the Long Beach show I bought a decent 1840 2 kopeks CM. It has very nice glossy surfaces (do not really see it in the picture). Here it is:

You are probably right as to a more primitive equipment. Already the planchet of my coin is very poor on both sides. The earlier CM 10 kopecks of 1831-1839 don't show up in decent condition, either - or they are novodels. On the other hand, the large and heavy Siberian coins that had been struck there (1764-1781) were not too bad. There must have been some deterioration lateron? RWJ This is very remarkable! even Brekke did not have them all, he lacked one, the 3kop1843CM, and even Aalborg did not have a complet date run, the 3kop1842CM was missing. RWJ has been a serious student of Russian coins for a long, long time. Ran Zander made a wise choice when he asked him (RWJ) to assume the role of editor of the JRNS (which consistently was, and is, easily is as good as anything "The Numismatist" publishes, even though it has a much larger readership/membership than JRNS). What's so special about the 1843CM 3K? Brekke (215) doesn't show it as scarce and it shows up on Conros every now and then for $25. Are we talking about a different coin? Brekke (215) doesn't show it as scarce and it shows up on Conros every now and then for $25. Are we talking about a different coin? I don't know how significant it is, but the coinstat indicates that there were only 2 sales on the 1843 3 kop CM in the past 6 years (on the auctions that they monitor, I believe that includes Conros). The 1839 CM has 3 sales recorded. Hope this link works: http://tsovin.ru/coins/?nom=3+%EA%EE%EF&am...=2008&auc=

I think the overall picture is correct (it's likely scarcer than the books state), and I haven't researched that series in any detail yet. However, coinstat does seem to be a little behind. A quick look at my Conros records show an 1843 CM 3K in Weekly Auction 320 (lot 483) $17USD, and again in Auction 333. I wonder if they've stopped collecting Conros data? The lot in Conros sale 333 went for $260, just 3 months after the same coin sold for $
alexbq2
Off the topic. I am wandering if the other coins I picked up from Hoilander are also from the Aalborg collection. alexbq2
Looks like everything is from Aalborg IV. Does anyone have a link to the first Aalborg sale.
