BKB
Found this topic on coinpeople: http://www.coinpeople.com/index.php?showto...mp;#entry389892 I think it could be fun to see if we could do the same with just Imperial Russian coins (1917 and down). It would also create a nice image catalog for reference. I suggest we place not just 1 coin per year, but as many as possible. Could be a very useful tool for future research... (IMXO) Anyone who finds it to be fun and has a 1917 (mine are not accessible for photography at tis time) please begin the topic.
squirrel
ok.. but basic ground rules?... (also from other thread) does an overdate count as 2 years.. eg if 1790/89 posts, then the next coin would be 1788.. and overstruck, well, that just leapfrogs to many dates...so they shouldnt count. I think that we should try to post as many coins per year (varieties) as possible to make this post really useful. If there is a year that we cannot find (i seriously doubt that) then we use an overdate. We should agree on the time we move on to the next year. This could easily be a year long project if we do not develop a mechanism for the year-to-year jump because we will should be able to post most years in quantities of 4 or more. We could use a time period (say 8 hours). Most important: variations should not include mechanical mint errors. Die variations are good and useful. Also, post only your own coin which you are certain to be an original. (do not read as post only slabbed coins!). Preferably mostly coins with at least 80-90% of design elements visible and recognazable. Date either clearly readable or a one year type. Anything I forget? Not knowing how extensive other people's collections are, I wonder if we have enough between us all to do this. I am mostly a type collector rather than a date/mintmark/variety collector, so my collection is probably small compared to what others here likely have (so lots of "common" coins missing). I wonder if some of this effort might be directed toward the virtual museum section of the Russian forum, a good idea which I think has not received as much attention as it deserves. We've probably all posted some coins in the various discussion threads which might have also been posted there, but weren't.

The question is, will everyone take part in this... If we miss a date, we could leave some space for it. It seems that the idea of the virtual museum did not attract much attention. Maybe this format will be more successful. Almost like a game... :-) I can cover some ground from 1849 down. There are a few collectors here that have a lot of material. All in all, it would be interesting to see if we can accomplish something together.

gxseries
The same idea is actually succesfully implemented in a forum called zeno.ru . Except, their site is strictly on Asian and possibly a bit of Arabic coins that are part of Central Asia.

alexbq2
I don't really have much in terms of Peter's silver, but looking at all this shiny stuff I got tempted, and got this funny looking guy of eBay. Any opinions?
